Barbara Asia

I came to the U.S. as a teenager (from Japan - my dad was career military and my mom Japanese) and got a degree in illustration. I had interesting brief jobs in the past including assistant sound engineer, bass player in a rock band, and bar waitress. I've also worked in fields of television, radio, and print. In the past 25 years, I've also been a graphic designer. My work is mainly illustrations onto wood and my choice of medium is watercolor, although some pieces are mixed media. I work with various tools, including scroll saw, sander, lathe, and burning tools. A few of my copyrighted art work gets transferred to tee-shirts, bags, pillows, prints, and a host of products, using third party companies.

What exactly is "xangetsu" ?

'xangetsu' is pronounced [zahn-geh-tsoo], meaning 'morning moon' in Japanese (sometimes "cutting moon"). The correct spelling is actually zangetsu. The reason I changed it to a "x" was to reflect my son's name, Xan. He was actually born during the early morning hours when the moon was still out. Thus, it all fits together nicely.
